The Park is world-famous for its volcano, which, at 24 years, is the
longest-running eruption on the planet. A couple of million visitors
come to the Park each year for its spectacular views, hikes, fresh air
and just plain beauty. |
|
Want to hike the crater, check out every trail in the Park? Or are you
someone who prefers a quiet retreat and a “walk in the country”? Garuda
Guesthouse is in the perfect spot for you: Two miles from the Park, two
minutes from a nice country stroll. |
|
There is probably no better place for biking than our own sub-division.
This small, one-block by four-block area attracts bikers from around the
Village because the roads are paved, flat and almost devoid of cars. Of
course, the Park offers many biking trails as well. |
|
The Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens, about 45 minutes from Volcano,
exhibits some of the most extraordinarily beautiful flora and foliage in
the world. Breath-taking is an understatement; it’s a “must” on anyone’s
list.
|
|
Watching the incredible flow of lava, a constantly fiery show of the
Earth’s overwhelming power, is not only a “must”: It is THE “must”. If
you’re lucky, the flow will come above ground; otherwise, you’ll catch
it as it plummets into the sea, making the Big Island even bigger. |
|
The Volcano Art Center, located inside the Park, just past the Visitor
Center, offers an enormous selection of work by many of the Island’s
most talented artists and craftspeople. The building itself is an
historic site. |
|
A short drive from Garuda Guesthouse is the Volcano Winery, featuring a
delightful assortment of local wines with mouth-watering names, like
Symphony Red, Volcano Blush, Hawaiian Guava and Macadamia Nut Honey. Of
course, you can taste it all before you buy. |
